Mining is the main industry in Mauritania and many of our clients come from the Mining industry.
Mauritania can be a very challenging country to work in not just because of laws and legislation, but also because of cultural, religious and tribal differences. Mauritania is very different from many other African countries, it has been slow to develop and was the last country to outlaw slavery.
The lack of development in Mauritania has attracted a great deal of investment from overseas. China has invested in a new port and road infrastructure opening up the west coast and central north Africa, a shrewd investment given the terrorism threats in Mali and Algeria.
There is a threat of terrorism in Mauritania. Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb issued communiqué in 2018 that specifically mentioned Mauritania calling for terror attacks in the country. There have also been a number of kidnappings in Mauritania carried out by Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb and a number of well-documented cases of terror group recruiting in Mauritania.

As French and Arabic are the main official languages of Mauritania, we supply French-speaking Bodyguards in Mauritania. In 2014 and 2015, Intelligent Protection provided Close Protection, Medical and Logistical Support to a UK-based firm conducting mining exploration in Mauritania.
Our team was based in the capital, Nouakchott, throughout the visits, and we coordinated Secure Ground Transportation to and from the exploration sites in the north and northeast of the country.
At the time, the area was known to harbour terrorists and terrorist sympathisers of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, so the threat was quite high. Aside from the security threats, there were also health and safety issues, such as water security and the distance from "Western" medical facilities.
We visited the country many times with these clients for two years.

Between 2017 and 2022 Intelligent Protection provided Security Risk Management, Close Protection and Medical Support for a client with a small mining operation in Mauritania.
Our clients had a rotation of staff in the country to whom we provided our services. We provided regular updates to our clients on the security situation, and as part of our planning, we had medical and security evacuation plans in place.
Working in Mauritania can be extremely complex and frustrating due to the remoteness of mining sites and communication difficulties.

Yes, Intelligent Protection has a vast network of female bodyguards from around the world. Often clients with young families like to have the peace of mind that a gentle, more covert approach is being taken to their children's security. This is a role that lends itself well to female operatives.
In most circumstances, hiring armed bodyguards in Mauritania is not possible; however, the government can grant permission for long-term missions, depending on several factors. Please discuss your exact requirements with us in advance so we can manage your expectations.
We can provide a wide range of vehicle to suit our tasks and have a number of local partners that we work with. However, it's not just about supplying vehicles, it's more about the right vehicle and driver for the task at hand, paired-with a security trained driver.

All of our operatives are qualified to a minimum of First Person on Scene (International) (FPOSi) or First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC3), British qualifications. They would also have received training during their Military or Police Service, many to a very high level.
All of our operatives carry first aid or trauma packs as standard, with larger packs in our operational vehicles.
English is Not widely spoken in Mauritania, French being the official language alongside Arabic. If you require specific languages to be spoken, please inform us. All of our operatives in Mauritania speak English/French as standard as well as their native language. Many are multilingual, adding value to the service that we are able to offer.
Intelligent Protection is coved by Hiscox insurance for Employers Liability, Public Liability, Personal Indemnity and Directors and Officers Liability. Further to this, all our operatives are covered by travel Medical Insurance.
